About The Company

The Company encourages students to create, organize, and operate a real venture. Young people experience the importance of innovation, generating impact, taking risks, making decisions, and working as a team. At the same time, they acquire tools for project management and finance while developing their socio-emotional skills. Students are guided by adult mentors (teachers, volunteers, or facilitators) and receive ongoing support from JA. The company has been transforming the lives of young people around the world for over 100 years.

Program stages:

Exploration

  • Organization: Select product, set identity, roles & strategy.
  • Development: Financial projections, capital, pricing & goals.

Action

  • Management: Handle finances, suppliers & operations.
  • Liquidation: Stock liquidation, balance sheet & reporting.

About COY

This educational experience is intended for young people between 15 and 19 years old who have participated in The JA Company (Junior Achievement Company).

The goal of the JA Company of the Year Competition is to showcase the potential of the best ventures from each country and highlight the top ones from the region.

This competition allows young people to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills in a competitive yet peer-learning environment, with the participation of business, educational, and political leaders, as well as the media.

It is a high-impact educational experience in an immersive format (3 days in person with prior activities) that takes place through a competition, and includes the following stages:


COY 2024 Stages

1. Application Process and Selection of Finalists

  • Application and selection of 21 finalist companies (online)
  • Evaluation of the Report + video pitch (online)
  • Announcement of finalists who will participate in the in-person event

2. In-Person Event

  • Trade Fair: Teams showcase and market their products to judges and guests.
  • Pitch Session: Student enterprises present their business venture to the judges.
  • Interview with Judges: Judges ask questions and assess company performance.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

Hyatt Centric Montevideo

Our location for the event will be the Hyatt Centric, a modern hotel situated along the picturesque Rambla of Montevideo, offering stunning views of the coastline.

Accommodations will be arranged for double or triple occupancy, with 2-3 students per room and 2 chaperones per room. Junior Achievement will prioritize members of each company sharing rooms, and chaperones will be paired with other adults to ensure a comfortable stay. The hotel provides stylish amenities and a vibrant atmosphere, making it an ideal base for participants attending the COY event.
